5 of the Best Roads for Motorcycle Trips
Road trips and motorcycles—some would say this is one of the best combinations on the planet. There are countless incredible trips, roads, and scenery across the planet, but how do you know which ones are actually worthwhile and which should be avoided?
Well, we’ve done the research for you and found five we think you’ll love!
The Pyrenees Loop (France to Spain)
This is a beautiful 2410km ride travelling through parts of France and Spain through a number of towns and countries such as Andorra, Ripoli, Seu d’Urgell, Bourg-Madame and more as you follow the mountain range of the Pyrenees, switching between the Spanish N260 highway and the French D117 highway.
There are plenty of places to stop and get some sun, such as the beaches in Girona, or spend a night in any of the countless towns you will pass through.
The route finishes in Biarritz, which is a great place to unwind after a long journey.
Pacific Coast Highway (California, USA)
As you may have guessed, this highway trails along the Pacific coast in California, twisting and turning through around 700 miles of the state, with the most famous section being a 268-mile route between Morro Bay and San Francisco.
It should take around three days to complete this twisty ride across the coast, with the breeze of the sea keeping you cool on your ride. You’ll travel up from sea level to the cliffs of Big Sur, and being in California, you can expect riding conditions to be perfect.
Splügen Pass, Switzerland / Italy border
The Splügen Pass is an absolute must; we are certain you will have seen photos of the road that zig-zags down the rolling hills and landscape between mountains as far as the eyes can see.
This road is based in the Lepontine Alps and connects the base of Switzerland to the north of Italy and is around 22 miles (36.7km) long.
It is perfect for riders looking to view some unbelievable scenery, but also ride a long, twisty road to get the most out of their motorcycle as they trek through Europe, if you want further proof of how great it is on a motorcycle, just check it out on Google Maps and note how many bikers you count. Hint: It’s a lot!
M58 Federal Highway Amur (Russia)
The M58 Federal Highway Amur is a 1300-mile road that is part of the Trans-Siberian Highway, taking you from Chita to Khabarovsk. It has an exciting story, as for nearly 50 years it was difficult to travel on due to the terrain and rocky roads. Then, in 2004, Vladimir Putin officially opened the road and began paving it.
The road is full of people from all walks of life with plenty of stories to tell, passing through vast forests, open landscapes, towns, and cities populated with people.
If you want a life-changing experience, this is the one for you.
Nürburgring, Germany
We couldn’t include the Nurburgring, could we? As much as it’s a race track, it’s also a public highway, more specifically a public toll road, you will need to purchase a ticket to ride on it which will cost around £20GBP that will allow you to complete a single lap of the 13-mile road.
This road is, of course, incredibly dangerous, and the mix of cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles all travelling at different speeds can make it rather difficult to navigate, but provided you keep your wits about you, you’ll do just fine.
It’s a bucket list ride for many riders and a chance for you to see what your motorcycle really has going for it.
